What you see is what you get (LegCo website)

THE BORNEO BULLETIN has reported that “Majlis Mesyuarat Negara” or the State Legislative Council (LegCo) will convene this year’s session in a few days’ time. So being a concerned citizen, I googled the official Brunei Government website for the LegCo official homepage and below is what I got:

Majlis Mesyuarat Negara – State Legislative Council – Prime Minister’s Office | Brunei Darussalam
This site is down for maintenance. Please check back again soon.

The other day His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in his Titah or message to mark the Commonwealth Day (with this year’s theme: “Science, Technology and Society”) said: “…we are making a considerable investment in information technology (IT). It inspires us in our efforts to provide the highest possible levels of education and health. It forms a major part of our long-term development plan.”

So my concern as a loyal subject or “rakyat” is this: Of all His Majesty’s Government institutions, the LegCo should be the main legislative body to have embraced fully the royal aspiration of His Majesty as far as full utilization of IT is concerned, particularly the internet as the most relevant tool in cascading and communicating all the latest information vis-a-vis LegCo affairs and development to the people of Brunei Darussalam.

Other neighbouring nations’ parliamentary websites should be the benchmark for our country e.g. http://www.parliament.gov.sg/ and http://www.parlimen.gov.my/, etc. Enough said… 😦
